Flood Gate Replacement at Morris Sheppard Dam

Authority crews are gradually replacing all nine flood gates at Morris Sheppard Dam at Lake Possum Kingdom. The dam, completed in 1941, has nine steel "roof weir" crest gates, each of which is about 74-feet long and 13-feet high. Sections of replacement gates are built alongside the dam and are lowered by crane onto the dam to be attached. A zinc coating is applied to protect each new gate from corrosive elements. The flood gate replacement project started in October 1995 and is scheduled to be complete by December 2006.
