Each year, the Brazos River Authority provides
one-day courses throughout the spring and summer months. The course provides useful information for
boaters of all ages and experience levels including all types of water conditions, from ponds to offshore
and ideal situations to worst-case scenarios.
The class is offered to anyone over the age of 13.
A 12-year-old child may take the course but will not
receive their certification from Texas Parks and
Wildlife Department until their 13th birthday.
Participants under the age of 16 must be
accompanied by an adult.
The cost for the program for both teens and/or adults
is $13. Participants must provide a social security number and a picture identification card (Texas ID card,
school ID, library card with picture, etc.) to attend. Each participant must pass a written test in order to
obtain their certification.
Taking this class could save you money on your
boaters insurance! Similar to discounts provided to those that take driver's education courses, many
insurance companies offer premium discounts to those that attend boater safety courses. Participants
should contact their insurance company to determine if a premium reduction is available for taking this
course.
